Listen to your skin
Your skin speaks — don’t ignore its signals. Health and beauty begin with attention and care. These may be warning signs that require medical evaluation. Consult a dermatologist if you notice:
- Changes in the shape, color, or size of moles
- Disappearance of hair from a mole’s surface
- Itching, burning, or discomfort
- Bleeding or inflammation around a mole
Also pay attention to inflammation, cracks, weeping or irritated skin areas, and any new growths. The earlier you consult a specialist, the greater your chance to preserve the health and beauty of your skin.
Why regular dermatology check-ups matter
Routine skin examinations help detect suspicious lesions early and reduce long-term risks. Dermatoscopy is recommended once a year — or more frequently if you have risk factors such as fair skin, sun exposure, or a family history of skin cancer.
Skin and hair health in a new climate
We often visit a dermatologist only after problems appear — yet preventive care is especially important when adapting to a new environment.
Dubai’s intense sun, hard water, and high humidity can significantly affect your skin and hair.
-
Strong UV radiation requires daily protection and carefully chosen sunscreens
-
Hard water can cause dryness, brittleness, and hair loss
-
Constant sun exposure increases the risk of pigmentation disorders and solar lentigines
-
Ultraviolet light can trigger the formation or transformation of moles, including potentially harmful changes
-
After swimming, children may develop rashes or itching due to local water characteristics and sensitive skin
At GMS Clinic Dubai, we take a comprehensive, personalized approach. During your visit, you’ll receive an in-depth consultation, tailored recommendations, and a skincare plan designed to help your skin and hair adapt to the UAE climate — preserving their health and natural beauty.

During the consultation, our dermatologist will carefully assess your skin and, if necessary, recommend additional studies such as:
-
Laboratory blood tests (as indicated)
-
Dermatoscopy for detailed examination
-
Skin scraping from affected areas
-
Biopsy (if required) for diagnostic confirmation
-
Immunofluorescent testing
Diagnostics at the visit
Examination and dermoscopy are done by a dermatologist trained in dermoscopy and skin lesion removal. Tests are ordered for a reason, not “for everything”.
- Dermoscopy of moles and skin lesions: the ABCDE rule and the “ugly duckling” sign — a mole that looks different from all the others.
- Trichoscopy for hair loss; the sensible minimum of tests for diffuse shedding is ferritin, full blood count, thyroid function and vitamin D.
- Lesion removal at the clinic: a doctor assesses the lesion first and the removed tissue goes for histology.
Never have moles removed at a salon: without a doctor’s assessment and histology a changing lesion can be missed.
